A milestone for Bangladesh: Three ILO conventions ratified

Bangladesh has ratified three key International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions:

  • Convention No. 155 on Occupational Safety and Health

  • Convention No. 187 on the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health

  • Convention No. 190 on the Elimination of Violence and Harassment in the World of Work

This development highlights the importance of embedding strong Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence (HREDD) processes for brands and suppliers. Robust risk assessment, prevention, and remediation mechanisms are key to addressing issues like violence, harassment, and occupational safety, as well as to ensuring these conventions come to life in practice.

Our members ETI, Fair Wear and Mondiaal FNV have contributed to this progress through our work in Bangladesh, including consolidated industry efforts through the Gender Platform Bangladesh and our consortium’s strategic partnership with BKMEA.
