Presenting the Technical Guidance on Meaningful Stakeholder Engagement in the Garment Sector

We are proud to present the Technical Guidance on Meaningful Stakeholder Engagement in the Garment, Apparel and Textile Sectors—a practical roadmap to involve all supply chain stakeholders in shaping human rights due diligence, developed by the STITCH consortium.

Why it matters:
Meaningful stakeholder engagement (MSE) is essential for improving working conditions and building collaboration between workers, suppliers, civil society and brands. It also helps companies manage operational and reputational risks. The new Guidance translates the concept of MSE into concrete steps companies can take and helps harmonise approaches across the fragmented garment industry.

What’s new:
This Guidance builds on the Framework on Meaningful Stakeholder Engagement launched in February 2025, adapting its five principles—legitimacy, accessibility, safety, equitability and respect (LASER)—to the realities of the global garment sector.

Who it is for:
The Guidance is designed for brands at any stage of their HRDD journey, as well as suppliers, governments, NGOs, industry bodies and worker representatives.

What’s inside:

  • Why is MSE important in the garment sector?

  • How do I design the stakeholder engagement process?

  • When should stakeholder engagement happen?
